Apple may revamp online store, starting with edu version

Apple may be overhauling its online storefront, starting with its site for education institutions, says a report from AppleInsider. Shoppers visiting Apple's online store for K-12 schools are supposedly alerted about the "new Apple Store" and told that "the transition to the new store will be easy."

Details are sparse, but the banner alert does say that customers will be alerted in the coming weeks about "the store's features, benefits and launch date."

The App Store and Facebook become Rabbids

Rabbids Go PhoneIf you’re unfamiliar with Ubisoft’s Rabbids, then you’re unfamiliar with video games. And that’s fine, because the company is now going to catch up all iOS and Facebook gamers with Rabbids Go Phone Again for iPhone and iPod touch and Rabbids Go HD for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as well as Rabbids: Invasion for Facebook.

Rabbids Go Phone Again and Rabbids Go HD allow users to discover new moves and interactive accessories to manipulate, tickle, shake, tease and play tricks on their captive Rabbids. Players can also use the photo tool to create augmented reality photos with their customized Rabbids and share them on Facebook.

The Rabbids Go App also includes delirious videos, exclusive wallpapers and new thematic backgrounds.

Rabbids Go Phone Again is available as a free update for owners of the previous version, and is $ 0.99 for everyone else. Rabbids Go HD—a universal app for iPhone and iPad—is available for $ 1.99.

Now, regarding the Facebook thing:

In Rabbids: Invasion, players embark on quests to “Rabbidize” iconic cities styled after popular social games, wreak havoc and spread mayhem in an all-out Facebook invasion. Players can grow their Rabbids world from a tiny farm to a sprawling metropolis by planting and farming burgers, stinky cheese and other bizarre items that can be harvested to supply the player’s businesses. Players that hold onto the precious toilet paper can use it on a shopping spree to collect exclusive items for prestige and bragging rights.

Rabbids: Invasion includes a new customization feature called “Raving Ravatar” that allows players to express themselves creatively by developing a Rabbids-inspired avatar of themselves with fully blinged-out accessories and an epic costume wardrobe. For additional laughs and embarrassment, there’s an option to Rabbidize your friends, family and even favorite celebrities!

New Apple Online Store coming soon banner is likely meaningless to most of us

There’s been talk this morning that Apple is “preparing [an] overhaul of its online store.” This is based off a banner that says a “new Apple Store is launching very soon.” The fact is that this new online store has nothing to do with the Apple Online Store that each of us run to whenever a new product is announced. This online store is more of an internal environment for educational institutions and Apple authorized resellers to buy more product for their students and store customers, respectively.

Apple authorized resellers began receiving notifications about an updated online store this past week (see above), but, again, that new store is simply an updated version of the reseller store that end-users should never see. On the notification email is an iMac displaying the current Apple Online Store for resellers.

That seemingly “new” Apple Online Store user interface is nearly two years old. Directly above is an Apple-created video overview of the online store provided to resellers in 2010. It appears that this online store update may span to Apple’s online store specifically for educational institutions (and perhaps for business customers), but these “New Online Store Coming Soon” banners are not referring to Apple’s standard online store. On the other hand, we know that Apple is at work on a new Apple Online Store (which could launch anytime), but these banners are not indicative of that re-design.

New Apple Store in France set to open

Un nouveau magasin d'Apple est prête à ouvrir dans la ville française de Lyon la semaine prochaine. Errr, excuse me -- I mean, a new Apple Store is set to open next week in the French city of Lyon.

ifoAppleStore is reporting that the new La Confluence store will open on Wednesday, April 4 at 7 PM local time. That date and time are a bit different from the usual Friday or weekend morning openings; the store opening is scheduled to coincide with the opening of a retail building that is part of a 350-acre redevelopment at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers.

There's another Apple Store just three miles away; no word on whether the existing Part Dieu store will remain open after the new facility opens.
